Amanda Davids’ mission to revolutionize the music industry began in Toronto but has already spread worldwide.
With upcoming tours planned for Europe, Eastern Canada and the US, to promote "Distinguishable in Difference" Davids is ready to unleash her music worldwide. Having a diverse range of performances already under her belt; including a 2011 Eastern Canada Tour, 2010 North Eastern US tour and UK Tour, 2010 Oakville Jazz Festival, RBC DesiFest, Masala Mehndi Masti, live performances on Rogers TV and OMNI in both Toronto and Ottawa, and the 2010 September 11 memorial concert in New York City, Davids, with her modern virtuosic style has been well received throughout.
With emphasis on improvisation and unusual arrangements Davids’ live performance is something to experience. Whether enchanting audiences with a piano or exciting a crowd with a Hammond Organ, you can see Davids perform solo or accompanied by her team of musical specialists; Dan “Shai” Mendelsohn (8 String Guitar), Eric Bouchard (Drums) and Dj Xplisit (Turntables/Beatbox).
Davids’ sound, as depicted by her debut EP-album title “Distinguishable in Difference” is distinct, combining Hip hop, Funk and Jazz elements with urban modern production. During her early years Amanda explored a diverse education in music, spanning multiple instruments and genres. Beginning her training in classical piano at the age of 3, Davids soon discovered her unique ability to absorb traditional styles of music, and articulate them with a modern flair. Entering the world of Jazz originally as an alto saxophone player and as a vocalist, Amanda absorbed new ideas and swings into her musical fabric. As her journey turned back to her original instrument, the piano, she began to take influence from iconic fusion artist before her. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Herbie Hancock, The Roots, Soulive and Medeski, Martin & Wood, Amanda began to develop her own identity as a fusion keyboardist and singer. Eventually, combining her diverse education in music with newer generational swings of hip hop, and reggae elements Amanda Davids developed a sound that was unique and revolutionary. Currently a disciple of world renowned organist Tony Monaco, Amanda has added the Hammond Organ to her arsenal of instruments with the hopes of ushering in a new era of urban funk.
In addition to her performance mandate, Amanda Davids tries to inspire future generations of musicians through her heavy involvement in music education. Currently in her tenth year of teaching both piano and voice, she tries to use her career success to positively influence her community and generate an appreciation for the arts. As well, Amanda Davids has a long performance history with several charitable organizations. These include; OXFAM Canada, South Asian Women’s Charity, Soloman Dawit Foundation, and The Julliett’s place women’s shelter.
